The exposition was a resounding success and a milestone in the history of the city of Seville. Over 41 million people from around the world flocked to visit it, and for several months, Seville became a showcase for the latest artistic, scientific, and technological innovations. It had its own mascot, Curro, a white bird with a crest and colorful beak. Curro’s popularity extended beyond Seville and is recognized in many parts of the world. One of the highlights of the event was the creation of a fairground on the Island of La Cartuja, on abandoned land, where pavilions of participating countries were erected. Many of these pavilions are abandoned today, but others, like the Pavilion of Navigation, have been well-preserved.
